Gaynor Morgan: The woman behind IncoStress
Gaynor's mother, Carole, was always full of life and energy. But at age 50, the usually vivacious and social woman began withdrawing from her usual activities. She stopped going out as often, and her children noticed she was clearly "not herself."
Gaynor clearly remembers the day her mother experienced a panic attack while out shopping. Looking "like a frightened rabbit," Carole insisted that she needed to go home immediately. She had accidentally leaked urine while coughing, and was worried the other shoppers would notice the wet spot.
After another year of being housebound and depressed, Carole had an operation called the TVT (or Trans Vaginal Tape procedure) to correct her stress incontinence. Although she recovered well physically, she still suffered psychologically with feelings of inadequacy. She refused to date, because she was concerned about urinating during intercourse.
A year later, her incontinence returned. Gaynor remembers the sadness in her mother's voice as she kept repeating, "It's back ... I can't go through this again."
But Gaynor had already been doing some research on her own. She knew there had to be a solution to help her mother, and vowed that they would use their nursing experience to create something new.
Their basic theory was that if you have a leak under your sink, you don't simply leave a towel there to catch the drips -- you actually fix the problem itself. Carole had explained that her incontinence was less severe when she was wearing a tampon, so their initial solution was a tampon of sorts, made from self-hardening clay sealed with silicone. Carole tested the prototype, and they were both thrilled to see that it worked!
Carole's confidence was restored, and she resumed going out and having a full social life. Within a year, she was completely cured of her incontinence. Word spread fast, and soon friends and neighbours with incontinence were volunteering to help test out models made from different materials. Everyone was ecstatic when they found the perfect material for IncoStress, and then it was time to take it to the world!

In 2004, Carole sadly died due to a sudden heart attack, which made Gaynor determined to carry on with the project in memory of her mother. But she will always be grateful to the woman who, with persistence and dedication, helped her create a solution for millions of women with stress incontinence.
Gaynor was determined to help other suffering women, and at that point approached Mr. Simon Emery, MBChB FRCOG Consultant Gynaecologist/Urogynaecologist.
IncoStress is now for sale in the U.K. and the majority of Europe, as well as Australia and Canada, and is dramatically changing the way women feel about stress incontinence.
